9 SEO Dos and Don’ts

Knowing what to do is just as important as what not to do when creating your SEO plans or hiring an SEO service to work on your small business website.

 What Are the Most Important SEO Dos and Don’ts?

  • DO check page titles to make sure they are unique per page with relevant keywords.
  • DON’T spam your titles (wedding wedding photographer photography photographers san jose socal weddings pictures photographers)

  • DO make your meta description a complete sentence that uses your keywords and relates to your topic.
  • DON’T use meta keywords and add 500 of them.

  • DO create backlinks from relevant sites niche directories.
  • DON’T pay for directory links on somerandomdirectory.

  • DO guest post on related site blogs and get a link back to your site to increase trust and readership as well as SEO.
  • DON’T spam article marketing to 50 sites after pushing your PLR content through SpinRobot.

  • DO check your image sizes and keep your site loading as fast as possible.
  • DON’T use a 3 MB image on your site.  Anywhere.

  • DO track your SEO using Google Analytics and RankTracker.
  • DON’T get so caught up on SEO that you forget about converting the inquiries you get.

  • DO use a social media program like hootsuite to schedule timely content for your readers and track your multiple streams of social.
  • DON’T use hootsuite to become a robot spammer.

  • DO read all-in-one SEO books like The Art of SEO by Stephan Spencer.
  • DON’T spend more than an hour a day on your site’s SEO.  Let it grow as you go.

  • DO have a plan.  Map your SEO and follow it.
  • DON’T be afraid to change your plan, adjust as you go, and learn from your mistakes.

SEO is done like this in 2012.  Your site should have unique, interesting content that people want to read.  It should have clear, keyed titles.  It should be based on the premise that once someone comes to your site, they actually convert into paying customers.   These are the principles we’ve used on the sites we work on and our own properties.
